Planning Your Very Own Wedding

Planning your own wedding is not always easy, but it is the only way to ensure that everything is perfect. If you decide to plan your wedding, it means that you will make all the end decisions, unless you pass that responsibility to someone else, someone you trust. Even if you have ideas in mind, they may not work out the way you planned. In order to prepare yourself for the preparation, hard work, and determination of the upcoming months, here are some key questions to ask yourself before you make any final decisions:

The Location and the Particulars

  • Do you want a local or destination wedding?
  • If destination, will everyone in your bridal party be able to attend?
  • Will your ceremony and reception be in the same location?
  • How many guests will you have? This will determine the size of location needed.
  • In which season do you want to get married?
  • Will your chosen season cause additional problems for you and your guests, like snow or cold or hot weather?
  • Are the flowers you want for your bouquet in season during the month you've chosen?
  • If not, are you willing to pay extra to get the flowers you want

The Food

  • Will it be catered professionally?
  • What types of food and drinks do you want?
  • Could you save money by making the food yourself or having family or friends help you with it?
  • Will the number of guests you've invited be fed without the food running out?
  • Do any of your guests or bridal party have severe allergies of which you need to be aware?

The Reception

  • Dancing? Performances? Singing numbers?
  • Do you have a DJ in mind that will play your style of music at the reception?
  • Is there enough room for your guests to mingle and dance?
  • Are you interested in traditional activities, like a bouquet or garter belt toss?

The Dress and Outfits

  • What is your wedding dress budget?
  • Do you have a particular style in mind?
  • What will your bridesmaids wear?
  • Groomsmen and men in the family? Have you considered matching neckties in your wedding colors?
  • Will the members of your bridal party all be matching perfectly or do they have some freedom in shoes and style of dresses or tuxes?

While there are many questions listed above, there are many more to ask yourself. Start with the above and work to the specifics from there. It will help you maintain your sanity and your concentration of your end goal--a perfect wedding.

LotusJump, Some good points, but I would have to disagree that planning your own wedding is "the only way to ensure that everything is perfect." I think the only thing you're ensuring is that you will be too frazzled and worn out to enjoy your own wedding! I'm sure some brides can pull it off, but I think brides should turn it over to a professional, so they can relax and enjoy their day.

There are plenty of things you can do to decrease yur stress levels and your wallet. Among the many things I do, I am a wedding planner and I recently helped a bride get her wedding gown from consignment, brand new for $25 and the couple's reception hall for $100 for the day with a full kitchen and wrap around porch.

Adding the food was a cinch since the venue was secured. There is plenty of parking and they can keep the place until late in the evening. You just need to know where to look.

David's Bridal also offers discounted apparel and some I have assisted have purchased bridesmaids gowns for as low as $15-$20. Invitations are being made on the computer, found the cards and envelopes for $3.00 per box of 50.

If you want tissue paper to accompany -any craft store should have it, you can cut even pieces into squares very easily and make it look like a professional job.
